Corporate Flight Attendants, being away from home sometimes half the year or even more , it's very important to look after yourself at all times . Here are some tips gathered along the way that may benefit any crew member or other travellers:

1. Prop your bags against the door of your hotel room. Inspect the room fully, even showers and closets, before closing the heavy door behind you. You could encountered a stranger in the room and may need an easy access out.

2. In ‘tricky’ destinations, always ask for rooms next to each other. At least in case of danger or problems , your Captain or co-pilote is only one load scream away.

3. Always pay attention to where the emergency exits are , where they are located from your room. In case of fire or other emergencies, you will know exactly in which direction to bolt!

4. Use the deadbolt! Sometimes hotels make mistakes and give the wrong room key and number to the wrong people! You don’t want some stranger walking into your room because some person at reception didn’t do their job properly!

5. Do not open the door for anyone you’re not sure of. Knock at the door, but you didn’t order room service or call for anything? Call the front desk when in doubt.

6. Skip the first floor. They’re easier to break into.

7. Leave the lights and television on even when you leave the room. Put the“Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. This way it looks like someone is occupying the room, so less likely that someone would break in.

8. Walk with intent. Walk down the street like you have a place to be, like you know where you’re going and need to get there quickly. Do that and people will leave you alone. Avoid walking around like a tourist with a city map attached to your forehead ;) This will easily attract the wrong type of attention.

9. Don’t be afraid to SCREAM. If you’re walking alone and feel like someone is following you, scream! If for some reason you feel scared and you’re all alone, ask for help, better safe then sorry! Trust your gut.

10. Treat your hotel key like a diamond. . Don’t leave it out for everyone to see, store it carefully in a safe place in your bag. Don’t mention your room number out loud even when you’re discussing what time to meet down in the lobby with your colleagues. Ditch the paper sleeve it came in!!! In case your key card gets lost or stolen , you won’t end up with some unexpected visitor in your room.

11. Hide your personal information on your luggage tag. The less access to your personal information , the more protected you will be.

13. ALCOHOL. A few drinks after a flight ? One? YES. Two? Sure! Finish the bottle?Maybe..... but if there is a tendency to have a big party, please make sure that you are in a safe place and with your crew so no unexpected surprises come along the way. AND never leave your glass unattended. Not even for a second, even if you are with friends or colleagues!

12. Dress appropriately. LADIES we all want to live a long and healthy life so please wear the appropriate outfit in the appropriate countries! We all know what that is ! I’m talking heels, mini skirts,… save those for when you are home or some place where you’re familiar with. The idea is you want to blend in and also want to be able to run if need be!
